What should I wear?
At New Jerusalem, you’ll see a variety of styles on Sunday mornings. Many of our members dress in more traditional, church attire suits, dresses, or business casual while some younger folks and visitors come in more relaxed, comfortable clothing. We encourage you to come as you are and wear what helps you feel both comfortable and respectful in worship.
What about my infant, toddler, pre-k, kindegarten, elementary, middle, and high school children?
At New Jerusalem, families worship together we do not have separate children’s services or classrooms during worship. Babies, toddlers, and youth of all ages are welcome to sit with you in the sanctuary. Throughout the year, our youth ministry hosts special activities such as movie nights, bowling, sports outings, and other events designed just for children and teens. These gatherings give young people opportunities to build friendships, grow in faith, and have fun in a safe, Christ-centered environment.
What is a typical service like?
Worship at New Jerusalem AME Church follows the rich tradition of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Our services are spirited, soulful, and Afro-centric, filled with singing, clapping, and joyful praise. The Word is preached with power, clarity, and encouragement for daily living. It’s an atmosphere where you’ll feel uplifted, inspired, and welcomed into genuine fellowship. Most visitors tell us it’s hard to sit still the whole service and that they leave strengthened for the week ahead, eager to come back again.
